The Flying Pizza Box

Up for regrettable sale is my Alfa Romeo Alfasud Ti Supercharged race car (update, now SOLD). Fondly known as the Flying Pizza Box, it was built as a Sports Sedan and raced in Italian Challenge, hillclimbs, 6 hour team races and Sports Sedan. We moved house and don’t have the room to keep it any more. It has not been on the track for 12 years, been stored under cover and needs someone as passionate as me to get her race ready again.

At last race meeting (2006)

The 1.7L 16V supercharged (supercharger is a Toyota SC14) engine has just undergone a complete rebuild with new forged pistons, o-ringed and worked heads (copper head gaskets) by Vince Rigoli. It produces ~180HP at the front wheels (~235HP at flywheel) on Rigoli’s chassis dyno at a modest 8psi boost, very reliable, powerful, well sorted & tuned engine (Haltech computer). Engine is currently out of the car, just picked it up (rebuild cost $5400). Car weight is about 850kg.

Fully rebuilt engine 2017

Suspension:
– new coil overs with adjustable tops were fitted for last race meeting, so are almost new.
– Fully rose-jointed front end by AHMotorsports in UK.
– Anti-dive front crossmember
– King springs all round

Gearbox is a 1.2L close ratio 5 speed box with “Phantom Grip” limited slip diff from USA

Phantom Grip LSD diff before it replaced previous LSD – 2004

Custom built exhaust system

Extensive steel roll cage picks up all points of suspension system

Brakes:
– 6 disc system utilises inner Alfasud brakes and outer Alfa33 brakes at the same time on the front, stops extremely well.
– standard Sud rear discs with adjustable limit valve

Wheels:
3 x three piece custom made Simmons 15 x 10 wheels (front)
5 x three piece custom made 13 x 9 wheels (rear), have run these on front in the past as well.

4 x transport wheels for when car’s on trailer

2000 – Eastern Creek (Sydney Motorsport Park), NSW – original 1.6L 8V race engine

Best time at Eastern Creek GP (SMP) circuit is 1:48.9.
Spare block and gearbox included along with misc spares. All fibreglass moulds for guards, bumper bars and spoiler included in sale. Front spoiler was damaged in last race incident (going into kitty litter), it’s intact but needs repair.

2002 – Oran Park GP, NSW

It has a CAMS log book, #N7818, it was issued on 15/6/92. I built it with 2 friends (mechanics) in 1992, originally fairly standard and slowly morphed into what it is today.

2002 – Winton, VIC
2005 – Bathurst, NSW

I’ve raced it at Eastern Creek, Bathurst, Oran Park, Amaroo Park & Wakefield Park in NSW and Winton in Victoria. Lots of fun to drive!
